An indoor cat depends entirely on what you put in the room. Somewhere high, somewhere to hide, something to scratch and something to hunt cover most of what a cat is missing.

• Cat scratchers: flat cardboard boards, sisal lounge beds, wall mounted pads and a cat tree with a condo, several of which double as beds.
• Cat beds: enclosed caves and tunnel beds for cats that hide, hanging wicker and hammock beds for cats that want height, and cooling ice silk beds for summer.
• Feeding and water: tilted and elevated bowls for cats fussy about whisker contact, slow feeder and lick bowls, plus fountains and gravity dispensers that encourage drinking.
• Cat toys: feather wands, teasers and launchers for playing together, and motion activated balls, automatic butterfly teasers and chirping birds for solo hunting.
• Grooming and going out: deshedding brushes, dematting combs, self groomer corner brushes with a catnip pocket, nail clippers, litter tools, breakaway collars with an AirTag holder and sling carriers.

Buy both kinds of toy. Wand games build the bond and ten minutes is usually plenty, but most cats do their real hunting while the house is empty, and that is what the self starting toys are for. Roughly a third of cats do not respond to catnip at all, which is inherited and normal, so try silvervine before deciding your cat is simply not playful.
