Elevated Cat Scratcher Bed with Wood Frame

Most cat beds get slept on. Most scratchers get clawed. And the two of them sit in opposite corners of the room while she keeps going back to the arm of the sofa anyway.

This elevated cat scratcher bed is one object doing both, a woven surface stretched taut over pine legs, high enough off the floor for air to move underneath. She sleeps on it, and she's allowed to shred it.

Off the floor and built to claw:

• Claw-friendly surface: somewhere she is allowed to dig in, which is usually the arm of your sofa
• Off the floor: air underneath in summer, away from the draft along the baseboard in winter
• Taut weave: it gives a little under her weight instead of sagging into a hammock
• Cover unclips: one release and the whole surface comes off to wash
• Two colors, three sizes: brown or gray, from a kitten to a large adult cat

Play, sleep, scratch, all on the same surface. Nothing new to train her onto, because the thing she claws is already the thing she naps on.

The frame is solid pine, smooth enough that claws slide off it rather than digging in. The surface is an imitation sisal yarn, woven to take scratching while staying gentle on paw pads.

Release the rods, slide the woven bed out, rinse it and put it back. Cat beds get dusty and hairy fast, and the ones that never get cleaned are the ones that are hard to take apart.

Thread the long rods through the loops on each side, push the four short legs into the corners, tighten. No tools.

It comes apart the same way. The rods pull back out and the bed flattens to a bundle of pine and a folded weave, worth knowing if it's going into a spare room over winter.

Getting the size right

Three sizes in two colors, and you choose by how your cat lies down rather than by her weight. A cat that curls into a circle fits the S, one that stretches out along the length needs the M.

The L suits a large adult or two cats that sleep together. Size up if you're between: a cat that overhangs the edge stops using it, and the weave takes the same scratching at every size.
