Wall Mounted Automatic Cat Teaser Toy with Rotating Ropes

She starts the zoomies at three in the morning. Indoor cats hunt at dawn and dusk whether anyone is awake or not, and if nothing moves at that hour she picks something that will. The curtain, the plant, your feet under the comforter.

This wall mounted automatic cat teaser toy fixes a problem no wand in a drawer can. It sticks to the wall in the room she already paces and spins two ropes in a full circle without you holding anything.

Why a circle beats a wand:

• 360-degree sweep: the arm goes the whole way around instead of back and forth, so she never learns the pattern
• Two trailing ropes: they flick and drag behind the arm, which is the movement that keeps a bored cat committed
• Two speeds on one button: fast for a kitten with energy to burn, slow for an older or nervous cat
• Ropes wind back in: nothing hangs loose on the wall between sessions
• Sticks or suctions: an adhesive plate for painted drywall and doors, four suction cups for glass

A cat works out a two-way toy in about a minute and then ignores it. This arm sweeps the whole way around and the ropes trail behind at a different angle every pass, so the thing she is chasing keeps changing shape.

One button on the face, and the speed is the whole difference between a toy she plays with and one she watches from the sofa. Young cats chase the fast setting. Older and more cautious cats commit to the slow one and ignore the fast.

Three steps, no drill. Stick the base plate to the back cover, peel the adhesive and press it to the wall, then clip the toy on.

The plate is made for smooth surfaces: painted drywall, tile, a gloss door. The four suction cups in the box cover glass and windows.

Charge it and leave it on the wall. The battery is built in and charges from the included cable, with about three hours of standby between top-ups. There's no compartment to open and no batteries to keep in a kitchen drawer.

Cats patrol one or two rooms and ignore the rest. The plate peels off and re-sticks on a smooth surface.

Start it beside the sofa, move it to the hall door when she takes up guarding it, and put it by the patio window in summer.

Getting the size right

One size, 18.6 x 2.8 x 1.5 in (473 x 72 x 37 mm). That is the length of the mounted arm, so allow a clear circle of wall a little wider than 18.6 inches for the sweep.

Pick a smooth surface the adhesive plate or the suction cups can hold.

Safety note: Supervise play and replace a rope once it frays, since loose strands can be swallowed. Switch the toy off when nobody is home, and check the wall plate is still holding before each session.

Pick the wall in the room she already paces, press the plate on, and the ropes give her something to chase besides the curtains.
