Highlights

  • Treat box at the base: he can see it and smell it, which is what starts the scratching
  • Replaceable sandpaper panel: it files the tips as he digs, and peels off once it wears smooth
  • Flat or three locked angles: a puppy scratches low, a taller dog reaches against a slope
  • Solid wood frame: nothing to charge and no motor noise to startle a nervous dog
  • Folds down: it slides behind a door or under the sofa between sessions

If your dog tenses up the moment the clippers come out, the problem isn't the nails. It's being held still. That's the part they hate, and it's the part this board removes, because he does the filing himself while you stand back.

This dog nail scratch board hands the job to them. A treat sits in a box behind a sandpaper panel, and every swipe of the paw to reach it takes a little off the nail tips. Nobody has to hold anybody down.

The parts that do the work:

  • Treat box at the base: he can see it and smell it, which is what starts the scratching
  • Replaceable sandpaper panel: it files the tips as he digs, and peels off once it wears smooth
  • Flat or three locked angles: a puppy scratches low, a taller dog reaches against a slope
  • Solid wood frame: nothing to charge and no motor noise to startle a nervous dog
  • Folds down: it slides behind a door or under the sofa between sessions

Three steps to start the scratching. Load the box. Drop their favorite treat into the compartment at the base so they can see and smell it.

Let them dig. They paw at the abrasive panel to get to it, and the nail tips file down as they scratch.

Keep it short. A couple of minutes a few times a week beats one long session, and ending on a treat keeps the board something he wants to come back to.

Flat or locked at three angles. Small dogs and puppies usually prefer it flat, while taller dogs reach more naturally against a slope, so the wooden bracket locks at three heights.

Fold the frame down and it slides behind a door or under the sofa between sessions.

Two setup methods for the Noblias dog nail scratch board, laid flat on the ground or raised to 30, 40 or 45 degrees for a taller dog.

Wood and sandpaper, not plastic and batteries. The frame is solid wood with a replaceable sandpaper panel, so there's nothing to charge, nothing to jam and no motor noise to startle a nervous dog. Cats take to it too, using the same treat-and-paw motion.

Getting the size right

One size. The board is 15.94 x 11.42 in (40.5 x 29 cm) with a 10.6 x 6.3 in (27 x 16 cm) sanding panel. Laid flat it suits a puppy or a small dog.

Raised on the bracket it locks at 11.02, 12.4 or 13.78 in (28, 31.5 or 35 cm) for a taller dog that reaches against a slope.

Specifications

Drop a treat in the box, set the board flat or at the angle he reaches best, and nail day stops being the worst part of the week.

Common questions

How often should I use it?
A few minutes two or three times a week keeps most coats in order; during shedding season a short daily session catches the loose undercoat before it reaches the sofa.

How do I clean the tool?
Pull the collected fur off after each use and wipe the tool with a damp cloth. Electrical tools are wiped, never rinsed, unless Specifications says otherwise.

Is it suitable for cats and dogs?
The Suitable for line in Specifications tells you. Most grooming tools work on both as long as the pet is comfortable with the pressure; start gently and keep sessions short.

How long does delivery take?
Orders are processed in 1 to 3 business days and usually arrive in 6 to 12 business days in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, or 7 to 15 business days in Europe. Every order ships tracked and the link comes to your email.

What if it arrives damaged or is not what I ordered?

Customer photo review of Dog Nail Scratch Board with Treat Box – Stress Free Nail Filing for Dogs

After 1 week, I would give it 5 stars. My dog is reactive and one of his triggers is his paws being touched. I have worked my way up over the years to do his nails myself, in lieu if sedation at the vet, but i still sometimes only get 2-3 nails done before he starts to show signs of being anxious and we have to stop. This nail file definitely files his nails down and he 100% thinks its a game. He gets really excited when I go get it and he's wagging his tail the entire time. We're still building up to multiple paw swipes at a time, but I think this is a great alternative for us!

We bought this to try for our pittie who has such long nails and is absolutely horrible about trimming them. He literally screams! This has been a wonderful option. 3-4 times a day I give him a treat in the drawer and hold the board for him. He will double down and dig with both paws. Once he has sufficiently scraped the board I open the hatch and let him get the treat. I already see a difference in a week's time. We will continue - I can't wait to show his vet on his next visit. I'm going to need replacement paper!

My dog loves it. She's a pointer mix and is 58 pounds . She really enjoyed the positive reinforcement. At first it took a little while for her to get the concept so you might have to get creative, especially if your pup is afraid of their nails getting trimmed. Once she got it, it was a great way to get her nails down. The only thing I will say is that when she was first trying to get it, she was nibbling at the board so it peeled a little bit but for the price, I can't complain. Would definitely recommend.

My LAB loved this! And it helped me with the nails. Just showed him some treats and away he went filing those nails that he will not let anyone touch! It doesn't happen quick but two or three times a day and I see a difference without the expensive vet bill

I made it into a game where I show my dog the treat then hide it in the drawer, and then he scratches the pad to get the drawer open and eat the treat. After a couple of sessions at about 5 to 10 minutes each time, I saw a difference in the length of my dog's claws. No clipping or filing needed

Easy to train our puppies to use. Now they vigorously scratch 2-3 times, and get a little treat. They love it! Only works for the front claws, but that is what we needed. When I trimmed the front claws with clippers, they were worse! ha ha. Like little half-moon scratchy claws. This helps smooth them out nicely. The puppies do not like me buffing their claws, but they LOVE scratching on this to get a treat. Having the hidden treat compartment really helps my little girls.
